Paper Flight 1km Speed Run: How to Fly Low and Average Over 120 km/h

Paper Flight used to be all about distance. Now it has a second mode, the 1km speed run, with one goal: reach the 1km finish line as fast as you can. Runs last about 20 seconds, so expect to say "just one more" roughly ten times. It is a time thief.

👉 Start a 1km speed run (or pick it under Choose a mode on the ready screen)

Simple rules

  • Your record is your average speed to the 1km finish, shown in km/h.
  • Touch the ground before the finish and the run does not count.
  • Every section has a fan and paired high and low rings.
  • Speed runs keep their own best, separate from distance, and challenge links you share open the same mode.

The secret: as low as you dare (and then you crash)

Two things make this mode tick:

  1. Fans are strongest down low. Fly high and you waste half the wind.
  2. Chaining the low rings stacks your boost up to six levels. Miss one and the combo resets.

So the winning line is skimming just above the ground. In the game's simulated flights, first-timers averaged about 86 km/h, while low flights that chained rings reached about 127 km/h. Break 120 km/h and you're near the top.

Step by step

  1. Launch low and hard. Throw too high and you'll miss fan sections on the way down.
  2. Tap, don't hold. Hold too long and you float up; never press and you hit the ground. Short taps keep you pinned just above the grass.
  3. Let the high rings go. Rings come in high and low pairs, but the combo builds when you chain the low row.
  4. Don't get greedy at the line. Dropping lower at the very end and touching down wipes the whole run. Landing at 999m will make you want to cry. Keep a touch of height once the finish is in sight.

Mix it with distance runs

When long flights wear you out, reset with a 20-second speed run. The tapping you learn skimming low carries over to distance mode and helps you chain rings there too. Check your top speed on the result screen as well.
