How to Make a Paper Plane Fly Farther, Game Edition: Reaching the 5km Storm Zone in Paper Flight

Ever get told off for throwing paper planes at the back of the classroom? Now you can throw them all day without trouble. The catch: they come down sooner than you'd think. So here is a stage-by-stage guide to going the distance in Paper Flight.

👉 Fly Paper Flight (free, no download)

0–900m: the launch is half the battle

Swipe up and to the right, hard. The magic angle is 30–40°. Nail it and "Perfect launch!" pops up, and you fly faster for the first 900m.

  • Too steep: you shoot up, lose speed and flop.
  • Too low: you say hello to the grass right away.

On a computer you can launch with Enter, but throw with the mouse if you want the boost.

Tap, don't hold

Pressing during flight lifts the nose; letting go glides. Hold it and you'll feel like you're climbing, right before you run out of speed. Shaking wings mean let go now. Short taps and releases keep your speed up.

Know your wind colors

Wind Effect
🟧 Orange fan pushes you forward
🟩 Mint updraft lifts you higher
🟪 Purple whirlwind shakes both height and speed

💍 Chain those rings

Passing rings in a row builds a combo boost; miss one and it resets. Even better, every 3 rings in a row earns a rescue, the automatic bounce just before you hit the ground. The free rescue only lasts until 500m, so after that, rings are your lifeline.

Stage-by-stage survival

  • Village at 500m, ocean at 1km: the warm-up. Bank ring combos and rescues here.
  • Space, 2–5km: dodge the asteroid fields up or down. Touching one slows you and speeds your fall. Difficulty ramps up from 2km, so by 3km it's already tight.
  • Storm zone at 5km: back on Earth, the wind gets rough. Storm clouds slow you down, so pick a path around them.
  • 7.5km and beyond: the same stages again, a bit harder. If you're here, you're already a pro.

Retry the same wind

The result screen lets you fly the same wind again. Change only the launch angle, then only your tap timing. Changing one thing at a time shows you exactly what worked. Compare flight time, top speed and rings passed on the result screen too.

So should I throw real paper planes like this?

Well... a game is a game. Paper Flight isn't a simulator that teaches real aerodynamics, and real wind doesn't come color-coded. Still, "throw too steep and it drops fast" and "speed keeps you flying" feel pretty familiar, so practice here before the next back-of-the-classroom contest. We take no responsibility for detentions.
